Try Hauppauge customer support, maybe they're not completely useless like Elgato customer support is (asked for a scan to get my system build information and when they saw it and knew the problem was their device and not my computer being too weak, they stopped replying.

Problem is definitely the PVR, but I don't have a PVR 2 to know what options the software has. Haha alright, what I was hoping to get at was working out if it's a bad cable, TV, console, or PVR, but you pretty much did that already. I just don't know enough about the thing to know if there might be some kind of interference causing the ghosting or if there's some setting option I could adjust.

The HDMI cables give me a clear image if I go direct from PS3 to TV so I'm assuming the issue is with the PVR. No matter what combination I use I still get the ghosting. I connected to two TVs and used twoHDMI cables.

I've tried two PS3s and even dusted off my 360 to try HDMI to the PVR. I'm using component from PS3 to the PVR and HDMI from PVR to TV. Not sure if there is a way to give you rep or a thumbs up on here but let me know if there is and I will do that haha. You're right about the quality, didn't see too much difference in the XMB between 1080 and 720 recording and I set the bitrate higher and and made it look a tiny bit more clear on recording. Thanks a lot, that was my problem I believe is not having them all selected because it would jump from 1080 down to 480. This would happen with any recording device, not just HD PVR 2. Edited Jby mjc0961Īs for the PVR itself, I'm sure it can record 1080i if you get a device that will output it, but PS3 is generally not going to unless you stay on the XMB or find a game that does support 1080 resolution.

Of course, this does pretty much mean that when you launch most games, you'll be recording at 720p (whether you want to do not) since the PS3 will go to that because the games don't do 1080, but as you've already seen, 720p looks way better than 480i.Īs for the PVR itself, I'm sure it can record 1080i if you get a device that will output it, but PS3 is generally not going to unless you stay on the XMB or find a game that does support 1080 resolution. Most games don't actually run in 1080i and the PS3 will take them down to the next setting you have available, and if you didn't check anything else other than 1080i, it has to go to 480i (selected by default and you cannot disable it) which would be a massive drop in resolution and cause you to have small, blurry videos.

If you insist though, the only thing I can think of would be that you should make sure you select all the resolutions when you do your display settings. So my suggestion is to just forget 1080i and stick with 720p.

There's little to no visible difference between the two, even if you go full screen, after YouTube processes the video. Finally, since you're probably putting videos on YouTube, the only real difference between 7 is that 1080 is a much larger file and thus takes longer to upload. It also makes it harder if you're capturing video with the intent of grabbing screenshots out of it (like I did here: Blue Toad Murder Files: The Mysteries of Little Riddle Trophy Guide & Road Map - ) because you'll have interlacing fucking up individual frames and that makes it harder to capture good images. 1080 is a higher resolution, but interlacing is garbage and makes the videos look bad if you can see it (sometimes you can, sometimes you can't). Personally I'd recommend sticking with 720p.
